The Process...
HOW I SOURCE THE RAW PRODUCTS. A lot of people do not realize the size of stalk it takes to create a one of a kind Strain Cane. Out of all the cannabis currently being grown, a good portion of it is indoor. Indoor plants are just too small to get any real length and girth. There are still a lot of outdoor sun grown farms out there. However, out of all the outdoor farms, a good majority of them choose to grow clones, which do not produce the size stalk needed for a hearty Strain Cane. This leaves us with the outdoor seed start farmers.Seed start outdoor stalks are what I look for when choosing stalks, but the plant cant be topped, which so many farmers do to maximize their yield. Very few farmers do full term non topped plants. Which is why Strain Canes are so unique. I pick the best full term outdoor seed start stalks to work with. Cannabis is easy to come by now days. But a Strain Cane is not. Each year I source from various farms I have partnered with as well as my own. All stocks are dried over a period of three to six months using different techniques. Some are dried using a solar kiln. A solar kiln is the simplest and safest way to dry green wood quickly. Because the wood is protected from the elements, solar kilns offers more control with much less chance of defects than air-drying provides. Other stalks that do not require controlled drying are dried by simply hanging them indoors with the temperature and humidity regulated. After an extensive, and unique process I am are able to utilize as many naturally occurring forms and shapes to accent the beauty of this amazing plant. The processes that I use bring out various attributes associated with each strain. Once they are sealed they are adorned with a brass name plate specifying the strain of the stock.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT SIZE CANE OR WALKING STAFF TO GET ? I sell two types of stick - Hiking Sticks and Walking canes. Hiking Sticks are straight and tall, between 48" and 59" tall. Walking canes are shorter, with a handle.
Hiking sticks should be 6-9" above your elbow, with your arm by your side while you are standing. The steeper the terrain you will be hiking, the higher above your elbow it should be - the length is used to reach down the hill and touch the ground, to stabilize you as you go down the trail. Additional length is completely unnecessary if all you are going to do is climb upward, you just need it when going down.
Walking canes - the top of the handle should be right at the break in your wrist, with your arm relaxed and by your side while standing. When purchasing a cane it is helpful to know what the proper length should be. Standing upright, allow arms to relax (with normal bend at the elbow) at your sides. Have a second person measure the distance from your wrist joint down to the floor. This number is the right length for you.
All of our sticks have long-life rubber tips and leather wrist straps (useful for hanging the stick on the back of a chair or storing it on a hat rack). Certain custom pieces are hand crafted using many different grips and beading that the client may request. The final result is a deceivingly light, strong stick that is truly a beautiful piece of art that is functional as well as a great conversation piece that can be enjoyed by everyone. This is a new journey for me and the whole industry in re-defining what can be made out of this industrious plant.
THE STRAIN CANE GUARANTEE. The Compliment Guarantee - "if you use your Strain Cane regularly for a period of 30 days, and do not get at least one compliment from a stranger (regarding your stick), I will personally buy your stick back from you, for the price you paid for it, and pay the freight" - Scott Rainey STRAIN CANES.
